Giant Steps' Autism Therapy - York RegionEligibility for Admission
Children who are 4 to 10 years of age and have a primary diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder are eligible to apply for admission to the Giant Steps program.

Admission Requirements
Giant Steps families demonstrate a strong commitment to their child’s growth and development in the areas of health, communication, behaviour management and social, emotional and physical development.

Families are active participants in the development of their child’s Individual Education Plan, in program planning meetings, parent training days and teaching seminars, meetings with their child’s therapy & academic team, and Giant Steps parent meetings. Families are committed to carrying out therapeutic strategies and program plans at home and in community settings.

Families pay annual fees for their children’s therapy programs and participate year-round in fundraising events and activities.

Application Procedure
Families can contact Giant Steps directly, or children may be referred by their schools or health professionals.

The deadline for applications are in March each year for the following school year. Click here to view our application form.

Interested families are encouraged to seek support for their application from their children’s local school. Required information includes documentation of their child’s diagnosis, all available medical, IBI, EIS, speech and language and Occupational/Physiotherapy assessments and reports, plus school IEP’s and report cards.

Eligible applicants are contacted for an extensive interview and assessment by our academic/therapy team when an opening occurs.
